A Mother Can Love You

A Mother Can Love You

The sun doesn't actually rise
or fall
It's constantly burning through dark
and all

The light from the stars never fades
away
But burns on invisibly during
the day

What cannot be seen is not always
gone
Just pulled by the rhythms of dusk
and dawn

A mother can love you beyond
flesh and bone
For love doesn't leave with a body
that's flown

The blue or the black or the gray
of the sky
Are colors that can't disappear
or die

Waves do not suddenly come
and then go
The water is simply above
then below

What cannot be seen is not always
gone
Just pulled by the rhythms of dusk
and dawn

A mother can love you beyond
her own death
For love is not carried completely
by breath

And just as a bond with a child
can form
Inside of a mother before being
born

A face isn't needed to form
a connection
A force that's concealed can still harbor
affection

What cannot be seen is not always
gone
Just pulled by the rhythms of dusk
and dawn

A mother can love you beyond
what is known
For love doesn't need to be sure
to be shown

The sun doesn't actually rise
or fall
It's constantly burning through dark
and all

The moon doesn't really grow large
or small
It only appears to — to rise
to fall
